The Cali Zoo in world renowned for its conservation work with the Giant River Otter. The new exhibit is planned as the premier attraction for the Cali Zoo in 2014.
Part of the Cali Zoo’s Master Plan, the Giant Otter Exhibit is part of a larger exhibit area that interprets flora and fauna in the Amazon basin.
The exhibit features a wide laminated glass window that allows underwater views of the playful otter, plus two moated views overlooking the habitat pond. An indoor animal management building is will be constructed at a lower level, with the outside wall themed to provide a naturalistic backdrop for the exhibit.
Giant River Otters are extremely charismatic animals, and children are fascinated with their antics. The approach will be to encourage visitors to interact with the animals and participate in this project included the design of a new exhibit for giant river otter, management zones and underwater view, the otter is one of the most charismatic animals in the collection of zoo and this project will allow more interaction from visitors to this species. Games for younger children will be part of the interpretation of this new area.
