AFH Design LLC was selected after an international competition to plan and design the largest and most comprehensive biopark in South America.
Bioparque Pereira will feature representations of seven unique bioregions, exemplifying the rainforests of the Amazon and Congo basins, arid coastal regions of Colombia and Peru, the African Savannah, Andes Mountains and the mangrove coast of Asia with 200 species represented over a large, 110 acre site.
The park features educational buildings, an amphitheater, a veterinary hospital, quarantine facilities and one of a kind restaurant with views of the lion exhibit and African Savannah. The Conservation Plaza features state of the art buildings that provide purpose built space for education programs and showcase sustainable design and construction strategies.
AFH created a detailed interpretive program to complement the master plan, featuring information about the animals in the collection, but also the habitats represented and the unique human cultures from each geographic location.
The team managed by AFH for the educational master plan included biologists, researchers and zoo specialists.
