Quito Zoo

AFH Design facilitated a series of workshops with the staff of the Quito Zoo, where the physical organization of the zoo was reviewed in detail. The re-organization plan defined zones that address specific themes and subject matter. Path circulation issues were identified and multiple re-envisioning strategies were explored. Being built on an extremely hilly site, visitor circulation and wayfinding were identified as the greatest challenges. Ultimately, an option that connected two of the major circulation paths, creating a loop was selected.

The completed plan established five areas representing ecosystems in Ecuador and one area for exotic animals. Service areas and guest service accommodations were also reviewed and mapped.
